Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22, 2012 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Florida’s Panhandle
The second Lighthouse Challenge to be held in northwest Florida commemorates Florida Lighthouse Day by offering participants the opportunity to visit and climb five historic lighthouses on Florida’s Panhandle. From its beginnings in 2010 as the Forgotten Coast Lighthouse Challenge, the Challenge has expanded to include a fifth lighthouse -- the spectacular Pensacola Lighthouse.
The participating lighthouses are, from west to east, Pensacola Lighthouse, Cape San Blas Lighthouse, Cape St. George Light, Crooked River Lighthouse, and St. Mark’s Lighthouse. Participants in the Challenge will receive a souvenir at each lighthouse and a special souvenir for climbing or visiting all five lighthouses. By holding our second Lighthouse Challenge, we hope to raise awareness about the lighthouses in northwest Florida and encourage support for the efforts to preserve these important players in Florida’s maritime history.
