| Shawn Oxendine and crew work on the east fireplace in the Keeper's House. |
The two fireplaces on the first floor of the Keeper's House are being constructed of original lighthouse bricks left over from the construction of the Cape St. George Light. The west fireplace is complete, and the east fireplace is almost finished.
The fireplaces will not be working fireplaces, but add a historical dimension to the replica of what was once the Keeper's House and then became the Assistant Keeper's House when the light stood on Little St. George Island.
Brickmason Shawn Oxendine of Carrabelle, who, along with his crew did the masonry work on the exterior of the dwelling, are doing a beautiful job on the two fireplaces.
Please see the Photo Gallery for a shot of the completed west fireplace, and for a photo of today's other activity at the construction site -- digging the ditch which will hold the electrical service for the house.
