The Cape St. George Light is proving to be a romantic venue for weddings and proposals! Most recently, Erin Bailey and Fred Babb were married in front of the historic lighthouse on Saturday, August 14.
Erin, from Apalachicola, and Fred, from Eastpoint, were married in a lovely arbor decorated with flowers and set in front of the lighthouse door. Friends and family were seated on the lawn for the ceremony.
Erin is the daughter of Clay Bailey and Gayle Richards of Apalachicola, and Fred is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Babb III of Eastpoint.
Erin and Fred are the most recent couple to wed at the lighthouse, but they are not the first. Patsy Densmore and Chet Anderson were married in the lantern room of the lighthouse on July 20, and now reside in Tallapoosa, Georgia. Patsy, who lived in Carrabelle for several years, said that she had always wanted to be married at the top of the lighthouse. With former SGLA board member Ed Tiley officiating, they were the first couple to be married in the lantern room.
Two couples (and maybe more) got engaged at the lighthouse this summer. On July 11 Michael Ruffino proposed to Raven Stephens at the top of the lighthouse. The couple is from Douglasville, Georgia. Kenneth Shepardson and Cheree Lee of Niceville, Florida got engaged at the lighthouse on June 22.
How appropriate that the Light that has guided so many mariners should shine on these couples as they start their new lives together. We offer our congratulations and best wishes to them all.
