SOUTHERN CROSS – Plantation
The four stars of the constellation Southern Cross create a shining, simple symmetry. The symmetrical façade of this house is anything but simple. It presents an intricate vista of angles and shapes—lovely geometry—where deck roofs rise like wings. Inside, the geometry manifests in bay-windowed gulf exposures and in high, flat-peaked wood ceilings. Rich wood defines this William Solburg–built home, from floors to wainscoting to ceilings to kitchen cabinets and bar. Dark green and rust tiles add to the feel of a forest kitchen. The whole house says home, with deep comfy furniture in warm colors interspersed with striking antiques. In an appealing floor plan upstairs, a large entry with morning kitchen—shouldered by two bedrooms—opens to another living room with breathtaking water view. Southern Cross, like its namesake, is stellar.
